SCOPE
Kitchen, Powder Room & Laundry
A warm and character-filled transformation in Fitzroy North, The Queens project reimagines the kitchen, powder room, and laundry into a cohesive, design-led home centred around thoughtful kitchen design and renovation. Completed for our homeowner, the brief focused on creating a highly functional kitchen while embracing a warm, mid-century inspired aesthetic with subtle 1970s influences, resulting in a space that feels both nostalgic and refined.
The existing layout lacked flow and usability, prompting a complete reconfiguration to improve spatial efficiency and enhance everyday living. Through considered kitchen design and expert renovation, the home now feels open, intuitive, and seamlessly connected, demonstrating how well-executed kitchen renovations in Melbourne can transform older homes into highly functional, design-driven spaces.
At the heart of the home, the kitchen is defined by soft curves, natural materials, and a layered tonal palette. Timber veneer cabinetry introduces warmth and texture, complemented by Japanese-style vertical subway tiles that add subtle rhythm and visual depth. A fully custom tiled island bench becomes a sculptural centrepiece, its soft blush tones paired with natural marble benchtops that bring a refined, high-end finish.
A curved rangehood anchors the kitchen design, reinforcing the home’s architectural language, while integrated appliances, including a concealed refrigerator and dishwasher, maintain clean, uninterrupted lines. Open shelving provides both functionality and styling opportunities, enhanced by integrated lighting that introduces warmth and ambience throughout the space.
Adjacent to the kitchen, a custom curved banquette creates an inviting dining zone that enhances both functionality and flow. Upholstered in rich, earthy tones and framed by timber detailing, this space introduces a strong mid-century influence while remaining contemporary, perfectly complementing the overall kitchen renovation.
The powder room and laundry continue the home’s cohesive design language. In the powder room, terracotta-toned tiles create a warm, immersive environment, balanced by natural marble surfaces and timber joinery. The laundry is thoughtfully designed with dark-toned appliances and custom cabinetry, ensuring practicality without compromising on aesthetics, supporting the overall functionality of the home.
The result is a sun-drenched, warm, and quietly nostalgic interior, an elevated example of kitchen design and kitchen renovation in Melbourne, where functionality, craftsmanship, and timeless materiality come together seamlessly.
